Technology Improves But Quality Decreases?

Technological advances continue to happen that improve our quality of life but at what cost? I recently (about a month ago) purchased a laptop because my old one had stopped working. Being in school full time means that having a laptop is an absolute necessity and that is the reason I purchased a new one. I had saved up my own money to purchase my new laptop and when I did I was happy because it meant that doing my work for class would be easier especially with everything piling up and papers being due for multiple classes at this point in the semester. I had originally wanted a different and more expensive laptop but did not have the luxury of waiting until I had saved up enough money to purchase the one I wanted so I settled for a less expensive option. This laptop worked great for me until one day it shut down my browser and simply refused to turn back on. I was in the middle of opening firefox in order to do research for a research paper and had not bothered to back up my files. All my documents and hard work was deleted with two weeks being left of the semester. The fact that I did not back up my files is completely my fault and I take full responsibility for that. However, I am mad that I product that I purchased a month ago would stop working for no apparent reason. I am now left with the option of sending my laptop to the manufacturer so that they can repair because I got a warrantee but that still means that I will not receive my laptop until the semester is over. What makes me so mad is that companies are continually putting out newer versions of already existing products in order to entice consumers to purchase more goods. This results in goods that are mad of lesser quality and this means that many consumers, such as myself, are left paying with a product that stops working for no reason. Companies should focus on producing products that are of good quality instead of trying to beat the completion by adding pointless updates (hello Apple) in order to make more money. Consumers deserve to have the peace of mind that a product they spend their hard warned money is going to wok and last them for several years without having to get constant repairs.

  1. I totally agree with you, all these companies try to make moneys among people, making a huge profits; they don’t care about how long their product will less. Personally I don’t know what laptop is better than the other one, when you check the'Consumer Reports' magazine to have a clear idea before purchasing one,you end up making a wrong choice. I had a Dell (notebook) sometimes when I start it up, the screen would go completely black and it doesn’t shut off until I shut it off by using the power button. I am afraid to see all my files being lost one day. Laptops are convenient but also have disadvantages compared to desktops.
