If there is one thing that has withstood the test of time it
is cigarette smoking. A variety of people smoke cigarettes. I have been exposed
to it all of my life. When I was a junior I noticed people around my age or
either a few years younger than me or a few years older than me smoking a
cigarette. Now being in college I see people smoking everywhere. I see smoking
outside of the McCarthy Center, outside of the library, walking to commuter lots.
I see it in other places other than on the Framingham State University campus.
I see it outside of the Natick mall, when people drive their cars; I have even
seen people smoke in their own house. This is appropriate and legal, but all
you are doing is killing yourself slowly. This makes me question if I was the only one
listening in health class when they said cigarettes are bad for you.
I have thought about having a cigarette and I have even
tricked people into thinking I would smoke one. BUT I HAVE NEVER SMOKED A
CIGARETTE AND I NEVER WILL. I do not understand what the attraction is to
cigarettes in this generation. The media does not portray cigarettes like it
did in other generations. It is illegal for tobacco companies to advertise
cigarettes. Meaning the media cannot be the main cause. I have heard stress is
a cause, but smoking does not make stress go away. Even on the package it tells
you cigarettes are bad for you by saying “This product can cause cancer.” But I
have heard all of the stories about cigarettes being addictive. My advice is do
not start smoking cigarettes, no matter how bad your life or how
"cool" you think it is.
Tobacco companies make millions of dollars a year. Pharmaceucitcal
companies have created methods to "stop" people from smoking such as
patches and electronic cigarettes. I have heard numerous stories about the
patches so I do not trust them. I have seen how blu cigarettes help. It is not
smoke, but water vapor that you can customize with different flavors and add or
remove nicotine. This product helped my father and step mother from smoking.
But when does cigarette smoking end? Better yet when will it die down? I hope
the next generation of people will not get involved with cigarette smoking. I
would love to see cigarettes die out and tobacco companies fall. But for now
this is only a dream.

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately the Tobacco Industry is one of the things that has built up America with its enormous yearly revenues. Though now a days in Canada they have put images of people suffering from mouth cancer on cigarette boxes to remind smokers what the affects are. I believe America was going to do that but i think it feel through or is being delayed. Hopefully putting the image of mouth cancer on cigarette boxes will at least slow the consumption of cigarettes down.
